DOHA: A construction worker was injured in Madinat Khalifa (South) yesterday after part an old building fell on him. The building caved in due to excavation work going close to it.

The worker was rushed for emergency medical care and his condition could not be known as this edition went to press last night.

The worker was lucky as personnel from the Internal Security Lakhwiya, firefighters from the Civil Defence Department and paramedics from the emergency services of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) rushed to the scene of the incident and immediately rescued him.

Workers were engaged in excavation on a plot of land located next to the building that caved-in.

The excavation was being done in preparation to construct a new building. However, due arguably to the excavation work being carried out on the plot the old building located next to it was impacted and suddenly came crashing down.

At the time many workers were engaged on the site of the excavation and one of them got trapped in the falling debris.

The old building that came crumbling down was barren or the accident would have led to a bigger tragedy.

Members of a rescue team from Lakhwiya could be seen busy searching the fallen debris for a long time to make sure that no other worker was trapped in.
