DOHA: The Civil Defence has launched public events in several venues in line with the fourth Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference to be held from November 11 to 13 at Qatar National Convention Centre.
The events were launched on Thursday at major malls, including City Center Doha, Landmark and Villaggio as well as Education City.
Jamal Jaafar Al Ajmi, Assistant Director of the Operations Department at Civil Defence, opened the programme attended by officials of several government departments.
Activities included educational games for children and drawing area. Civil Defence personnel explained to people the concept of safety and what to do during emergencies.
Al Ajmi said such events aimed at enhancing cooperation between Civil Defence and society and raising awareness to ensure protection of children and families.
Events at Villaggio were inaugurated by Ibrahim Al Asmakh, Director of Support Administration. Civil Defence staff distributed brochures and booklets on fire and safety.
The main focus of the programme was on raising awareness about fire safety among children. Activities were centred on fire rescue and how to use the fire extinguisher. Civil Defence staff answered questions from visitors.
Maj Aman Al Ali led the opening at Landmark Mall. Events focused on security at home. Documentary films on Civil Defence and firefighters’ efforts to rescue people during fires were shown.
Col Ibrahim Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Director of Preventive Administration, opened events at City Centre Doha. Children enjoyed having their photos taken with mascots.
Al Muftah said: “These are educational events associated with Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference to enhance community participation.
Events in Souq Waqif were launched in a big tent and will run until November 6.
Female Civil Defence personnel interacted with children and families through activities such as a model house which showed wrong habits which cause fire. Devices used to put out fire were also showcased.
The tent will receive students from 8am to noon and the general public from 4pm to 9pm until November 6.
