DOHA: A stunning strike from Laka Uche helped in-form Eljaish go top of Qatar Stars League (QSL) after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lekhwiya yesterday.

The Eljaish player unleashed a powerful shot with his left foot in the 63rd minute in what proved to be the only goal of the match.

Eljaish, coached by Razvan Lucescu have 15 points, two points  ahead of Al Sailiyah, who were held to a 1-1 draw against  Al Wakra.

Anwa Dibar (26) opened proceeding for Al Wakra but Al Sailiyah struck back five minutes later courtesy of Dagano Billy (31).

Al Wakra are now third with 13 points, having drawn their previous three matches.

In another QSL match yesterday, Umm Salal and Al Khor played out a goalless draw.

Lekhwiya are now fourth with 11 points after their second loss of the season.

Reigning champions Al Sadd, who lie in fifth position with 11 points, can overtake last season’s runners-up with a draw or victory against Al Gharafa today.
