17 militants killed in Afghan clearing operations

KABUL: At least 17 Taliban militants were killed and 62 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were confiscated during clearing operations by Afghan national security forces.

The Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) said at least 22 Taliban militants were also injured during the operations conducted by Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan National Army and Afghan Intelligence National Directorate of Security (NDS) forces.

A statement released by MoI said the operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Laghman, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Khost and Farah provinces, according to the Afghan (Khaama Press).

Another militant was also arrested by Afghan national security forces during the operations, MoI said, adding that various types of weapons and ammunition were discovered and seized by the security forces.

The IEDs were confiscated from Kandahar, Paktiak, Herat and Helmand provinces, MoI said.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the reports so far. (QNA)
