DOHA: Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik will be one of the several top ranked players who will be taking part in the Qatar Masters Open, informed Qatar Chess Association (QCA) officials here yesterday.
Mohammed Ahmed Al Modiahki, Grandmaster and General Secretary of QCA said some of the top players of the world will be in Qatar for the November 25 to December 5 championship.
“The Prize money on offer at the championship is one of the highest in the Middle East. The winner will get $25,000. Besides we have prize money for best women players and best Arab players,” said Al Modiahki while talking to The Peninsula.
“Among the top players, one of them is Vladimir Kramnik of Russia. Other plaeyrs include Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Anish Giri, Alexei Shirov, Gata Kamsky, Pentala Harikrishna, Pavel Eljanov have already confirmed their participation.”
Qatar challenge at the challenge at the championship will be lead by Gradmaster Chen Zhu.
The other Qatari competitors will be Mohammed Al Sayed and Husein Aziz Nezad.
