New Delhi: With the prices of both global and silver declining sharply in the global markets, India has slashed their import tariff value to ascertain their import duty, an official statement said yesterday. The tariff value for gold has been cut to $391 per 10 grammes from $401, while that for silver has been reduced to $551 per kg from $575 per kg. These tariff values for a host of commodities are ascertained on a fortnightly basis. The slash in tariff value on imported gold has been notified by the Central Board of Excise and Customs. The import tariff value is the base price at which customs duty is levied. It helps to prevent under-invoicing. Gold price in the Delhi bullion markets was ruling at around Rs26,550 per 10 grammes and silver at Rs36,250 per kg yesterday.
Man held for killing daughter’s rapist
New Delhi: A man in his 50s has been arrested on charges of killing his 45-year-old tenant when he came to know that his teenaged daughter was raped by the man a month ago, police said. The incident was reported from Khajoori Khas area of east Delhi. The father was arrested a few hours after he killed Omprakash, a resident of Madhya Pradesh. The investigation revealed that the tenant had raped the man’s 14-year-old daughter a month ago and threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke about the incident to her family. When the tenant had gone to his home town in Madhya Pradesh to celebrate Diwali, the girl fell ill, and hospital tests revealed she was pregnant. The girl then told her parents about how she was raped by the tenant a month ago. “The annoyed father was involved in a heated argument with the tenant Friday night when he returned from his home town. During the argument, the father strangled Omprakash to death,” a police official said.
