DOHA: Ooredoo on Thursday hosted a special event to celebrate the victory of the Qatar under-19 football team in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Championship — the first time that Qatar has won the title.

In a ceremony held at the Ooredoo headquarters in West Bay, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman of Ooredoo, congratulated the players and members of the technical and administrative staff on their achievement.
Also present at the ceremony were members of Qatar Football Association and a large number of Ooredoo staff. Qatar’s under-19 football team claimed the AFC Under-19 Championship title after beating DPR Korea in the final match, held in Yangon, Myanmar, last week.
“On behalf of Ooredoo, I am very proud to be celebrating our national youth team’s achievement with all of you. Our players have succeeded in bringing great pride to our beloved country by bringing the title home. They deserved to win the Asian Football Championship as they have worked hard for it and showed the world the potential of Qatari youth to succeed in sport and other areas,” said Sheikh Abdullah.
“Their success would not have been possible without the support of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is continuously backing Qatari sports, as well as the support of H H Sheikh Jassem bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir’s representative,” he added.
Sheikh Abdullah also praised the efforts of Qatar Football Association, the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence, and Qatar’s national network of sports clubs in general, which have all worked together to deliver sporting excellence to Qatar.
At the end of the celebration, Ooredoo wished the team best of luck for the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, to be held in Doha.
