Birla Public School won the prestigious prize for the Green Educational Building in the 2nd Annual Qatar Sustainability Awards ceremony held at the Rotana City Centre, Doha on October 29.
The members of the BIRLASPHERE (Eco Club of Birla Public School) created ‘magic’ by making their school building environment-friendly, with various projects like Save Water, Save Electricity, Recycling of waste materials, Cleanliness campaign, Kitchen Gardening, etc.
The main campus located at Ras Abboud st, opposite Religious Complex Abu Hamour, is a perfect example of a ‘Green’ building, where students learn to study in harmony with their surroundings.
Qatar Sustainability Awards aim to recognise the efforts, commitment, and contributions of individuals, institutions and organizations in furthering sustainable development and environmental protection in Qatar and beyond.
The main categories include green buildings, green hospitality, green service providers, building products and technologies, green research and sustainability initiatives.
The school Eco Club owes much to the enthusiasm and motivation of its incharge, Rakesh Verma, senior teacher in Social Studies.
