Volunteers collect waste during the clean-up event held at Al Jamail coastline.
Doha: A coastline clean-up campaign titled “Think Green - Live Green” was launched on Friday by Power International Holding (PIH) in collaboration with the Beaches and Islands Department of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
The clean-up drive resulted in the collection of 320 bags of waste along Al Jamail coastline, northeast of the country.
UCC Group CEO Mohamed Sabri said: “Think Green - Live Green is an initiative that we have undertaken to educate citizens about caring for the environment. As a company, we always want to take effective measures to protect the environment for future generations.”
The activity coincided with Qatar Sustainability Week 2021 which was marked in the last week of October. Launched by the Qatar Green Building Council, the undertaking is aimed to engage the local community in sustainability initiatives.
Around 70 members of UCC Holding, Elegancia and Aura Groups which are under PIH, and representatives from the Ministry participated in the event.
This is the second beach clean-up done by PIH. In 2019, UCC’s Seashore cleaning campaign received a Green Angel Award for effective and valuable environmental contributions.
In those projects 800 metres of accumulated waste was removed from the Qatari seashore.
Moreover, the conglomerate has also partnered with the Ministry of Environment to monitor air quality in Qatar, and celebrate World Environment Day by planting trees and launching a social media campaign about sustainability.
