Doha: Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti affirmed that celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Shura Council is a reflection and evidence of the wise leadership’s belief in the importance of popular participation in decision-making.
Her Excellency added, in a statement on the sidelines of the event that was held on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Council, that the support by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the Council and the holding of the elections last October, is the culmination of this historic march.
She described the half-century-long march as pioneering in the people’s participation in decision-making, adding that 50 years ago, the wise leadership and the founding fathers believed in the necessity of citizens’ participation in decision-making and benefiting from their experiences in enacting laws and legislation.
Meanwhile, Secretary-General of the Shura Council H E Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala stressed yesterday that the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Shura Council represents a starting point towards a new stage in the history of the Council to boost development efforts, extending congratulations to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on this occasion.
