DOHA: Qatari women have outshined men in endowments (Waqf) with 60 percent of the Waqf assets in the country belonging to the former, a senior official of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has said.
Mohammed Lahdan Al Mohannadi, head of the Department of Waqf Assets at the Ministry was speaking at a function held at the Qatar University to mark the Islamic Endowments Day.
Al Lahdan said 39 per cent of the Waqf assets in Qatar are based in Doha while 13 per cent are in Al Rayyan. The rest are spread across the country.
The event was organised by the Shariah College at Qatar University to raise awareness among students about the importance of endowments.
Students presented various projects to develop Waqfs to build schools and health care facilities in poor countries.
