Emir invites leaders to GCC Summit

Riyadh: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia received a written message from the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani containing an invitation to the 35th session of the GCC Supreme Council in Doha on December 9-10.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al Faisal received the letter during a meeting with the Minister of State H E Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Saud Al Thani.
H M Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman also received a similar invitation. 
Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said received the message during a meeting with the Minister of State H E Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Attiyah in Muscat.


Ghanian President praises Aspire


Doha: The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, yesterday said he was impressed by Aspire Zone Foundation, which he described as an architecture art piece and a great sports project.
“I wish I could take Aspire to my country,” he said, adding with these sports facilities, Qatar can host any major tournament.
He said Ghana had received with happiness news of Qatar winning the bid to host FIFA World Cup 2022.
“We look forward to the World Cup in Qatar,” he said, hoping that his country’s team will qualify for the tournament “to enjoy these wonderful facilities.”
Dramani toured Aspire Zone, accompanied by Aspire’s CEO Khalid Abdullah Al Sulaiteen, Vice-President Tariq Al Naama, and Aspire Academy Director, General Ivan Bravo, who briefed him on the facilities.
Mahama and his delegation also visited Museum of Islamic Art and viewed collections of Islamic antiquities and books, manuscripts, coins and other artefacts from three continents dating back to 14 centuries.
He was also briefed on the museum and its role in the diffusion of knowledge, culture, encouragement of creativity and communication with world cultures and arts.
He signed the guests register, praising the museum.


Deputy PM meets Vietnam envoy


Doha: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs 
H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud yesterday met Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Hoang and discussed ways of enhancing relations in various fields and issues of common concern.


Civic directors appointed


Doha: The Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani issued two decisions appointing directors for Al Daayen and Al Shamal municipalities. The first decision appointed Mubarak Nasser Al Khalifa as Director of Al Daayen and the second appointed Hamad Jomaa Al Manai as Director of Al Shamal. 

Iraq parliament Speaker arrives 


Doha: The Speaker of Iraqi House of Representatives, Dr Salim Abdullah Al Jubouri,  yesterday arrived on a visit to Qatar for talks with officials. He was welcomed at Hamad International Airport by the Advisory Council Speaker, Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khulaifi, and Secretary-General Fahd bin Mubarak Al Khayareen and Iraqi Charge d’Affaires Nawar Sadiq Jawad.
