DOHA: Over 53,000 people, mostly newly-recruited workers, entered Qatar last month, taking the population to over 2.26 million.
The population stood at 2,269,672 by November-end, with three-fourths (1.69 million) comprising men, official figures released yesterday suggest.
In 11 months, the population has surged by more than 224,000. In other words, some 224,433 people have entered the country since January this year.
The growth so far this year has been 8.4 percent, statistics issued by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics reflect.
The population as on December 31 was 2.04 million (2,045,239) and by October-end at 2,216,500.
The ministry said the figure excludes citizens and expatriates with valid residency permits who were outside the country by November 30.
