Doha: Qatar University (QU) hosted a ceremony to launch a special exhibition ‘The Beauty of Islamic Manuscripts - the Leiden Collection’ in cooperation with the Dutch embassy.
The expo is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dr Luit Mols, Curator of the collection at National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden.
The event until December 17 marks the 400th anniversary of Arabic studies at Leiden University and the collection bears witness to the rich historical bonds between the Arab and Islamic world and the Netherlands.
It aims to give the audience, especially youth, the opportunity to explore historically-significant Islamic manuscripts and other works.
The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, QU President, Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, and the Dutch Ambassador, Yvette Burghgraef-van Eechoud, launched the exhibition at QU Library in the presence of members of QU leadership and officials from the diplomatic and government sectors.
The programme included a special lecture and guided tour by Dr Mols.
Al Kuwari said: “Cultural heritage is one of the basic pillars of Qatar’s development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The exhibition is a celebration of a strong relationship between Qatar, the Arab Islamic world and the Netherlands.
