The Minister of Youth and Sports and Chairman of the National Day Celebrations Organizing Committee  H E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali addressing the press conference yesterday.

DOHA: National Day celebrations will start at a specially set up Darb Al Saee ground in Doha next Monday, the organising committee announced yesterday.
For the first time, the Traffic Department and media organisations will set up their pavilions at Darb Al Saee, along with regular participants. Activities continue until December 20.
The Minister of Youth and Sports and Chairman of the National Day Celebrations Organizing Committee  H E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al Ali called on citizens and expatriates to take part in National Day activities.
National Day is celebrated on December 18.
“Expatriates should not feel that National Day is only for Qataris,” the Minister told a press conference yesterday.
“It is a celebration of our history and remembering our past. Celebrating National Day is the responsibility of all, not just the committee,” he added.
He said the aim of the celebrations is to uphold love, loyalty and values of the founders of the country.
“Since we started celebrations in 2008 we are getting new ideas and proposals. We are trying to make celebrations different from other countries and avoid imitating others,” he said.
The Minister cited Ad Al Qaseed, Al Murada and Rabih — all unique Qatari events.
“We are trying to highlight the history as well as the modern developments in the country. We have selected Qatari poets and their old poems that will be used in celebrations,” he said. The Peninsula
