DOHA: The Sidra Medical and Research Center’s National Development Team organised an Open Day at Qatar University’s (QU) Female College of Arts and Sciences building.
It aimed to inspire students to pursue careers in science and medicine by offering support through scholarships and training.
Encouraging students to choose a career in science and medicine was also the focus of a keynote presentation by Sidra’s Acting Chief Medical Officer, Professor Ziyad Hijazi who shared his journey about discovering passion for medicine, with QU pharmacy and biomedical students.
“Having been born and raised in Jordan, I feel fortunate to have the chance to come back to the region and inspire future generations of medical professionals and scientists to pursue careers in medicine.
“Thanks to Qatar’s vision to promote healthcare education, students have access to the best learning facilities, educational specialists and mentorship programmes.
“I am pleased to be here to talk about Sidra and our speciality services and hope to see more home-grown health professionals joining the industry,” he said.
The Open Day follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between QU and Sidra last week on training, educational initiatives, exchange programmes and student sponsorships.
“Our goal is to make Sidra the obvious choice for medical education and careers for future graduates from QU’s recently announced Medical College and universities in the region,” said Dr Eiman Al Ansari, Director, National Development, Sidra.
Sidra’s scholarship team was on hand to answer questions and receive applications from students for scholarships at a booth.
“Cooperation between academic institutions is building a robust landscape for growing talent in our country and creating opportunities for students to learn from and practise with some of the best medical professionals and scientists in the world.
“We are proud to work with institutions like Sidra to ensure our students have access to the best career opportunities,” said Dr Ayman El Kadi, Dean, College of Pharmacy.
