
COLOMBO: Nasser Al Khelaifi (pictured) has been voted chairman of the Asian Tennis Federation in the election that was held in Sri Lanka on the sidelines of the Annual General Assembly (AGM) of the federation.
Al Khelaifi, President of Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), replaces Sheikh Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah of Kuwait who was appointed honorary president of the continental federation.
In the voting of other executive positions, Anil Khanna of India won the presidential vote unopposed while the general assembly voted 12 members into the federation’s board out of 18 candidates.
Al Khelaïfi is a former Davis Cup player and member of the Qatar National Tennis Team with which he won the GCC Team Tournament. Al Khelaïfi has been president of the QTF since November 2008.
Al Khelaifi is often seen at the home turf of PSG where he heads the team in the French league and during UEFA Champions League matches.
As a tennis professional, Al-Khelaïfi was one the most successful members of the Qatar Davis Cup team, playing 43 ties between 1992 and 2002 and compiling a 12–31 record in singles, 12–16 in doubles.
