DOHA: Gulf Drilling International (GDI), a subsidiary of Gulf International Services (GIS), the largest services group in Qatar, has won the prestigious ICAEW Excellence Award under the category of “Internal Audit Excellence” for 2015. Imran Zia, Chief Internal Auditor, and Omar Al-Shahri, from operation department, received the award on behalf of GDI.
Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, UAE, opened the event and congratulated all the award winners. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) is a world leading professional membership organization, which has initiated the Middle East Accountancy &Finance Excellence Awards; and GDI emerged as the proud winner of “Internal Audit Excellence Award” for this year.
GDI was chosen as the winner seeing that GDI’s internal audit function played a pivotal role in enhancing and embedding corporate governance, risk management and assurance in the company. The audit function proactively and effectively contributed to the management of business risks augmenting GDI’s ability to weather wider economic conditions.
GDI’s CEO Mubarak A Al Hajri expressed his contentment upon winning the award. He said that this award is a true reflection of our commitment towards improving corporate culture and bringing more transparency & efficiency in everything we do.
GDI’s Chief Internal Auditor Imran Zia said that it’s a great recognition of the work done by internal audit function in the organization; and it’s a proud moment for GDI. He emphasised that top management’s support plays a crucial role in success of any internal audit function.
