Doha: As part of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in spreading Islamic culture and awareness among the expatriate communities in the country, 30 detainees of Filipino and Ethiopian nationalities at Search and Follow Up Department embraced Islam recently under the guidance of Islamic propagators from Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and Qatar Guest Centre.

The 30 female detainees and a number of male detainees announced embracing Islam voluntarily after organising a number of programmes to introduce the message of Islam to them and several recreational, propagation and sports activities by the Search and Follow Up Department.

Detention Branch Officer Lieutenant Khalid Ibrahim Al Obaidly said that the department was carrying out a directive of the Ministry of Interior in the field of general awareness, which includes religious awareness. Inviting the detainees to the religion of Almighty Allah is part of this initiative. The department has implemented the programme in cooperation and coordination with RAF that provided male and female propagators for raising Islamic culture and awareness among the detainees at the department, who desire to take part in this kind of activities from Muslims and non-Muslims.

The department tries to expand this programme by building a centre for expatriates in cooperation wit RAF, Qatar Guest Centre and Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments and equipped with necessary books and propagators, with separate halls for males and females inside the Search and Follow Up Department for introducing Islam and spread its teachings among the detainees.
