DOHA: Fourth roadshow of ‘Kulluna’ safety campaign will start today at the Doha Exhibition Centre following its recent visits to City Center, Landmark and Villaggio.

The event is dedicated to keeping children safe at home. The road show will be held until Saturday.

The highlight of the stand this weekend is ‘the giant kitchen,’ showcasing adults how home environment and furniture items look in the eyes of small child.

Adults will be asked to see themselves as small children and to appreciate the potential dangers in the kitchen including utensils such as oven or cookers with frying pan handles, to demonstrate the risk of burns and scalds, drawers to demonstrate the risk of climbing onto units and the reach of sharp items such as knives, cupboards with chemical bottles to highlight the risk of poisoning.

Dr Khalid Abdulnoor Saifeldeen, Director of the Hamad International Training Center (HITC), a partner in Kulluna, said: “Each year more than 40,000 children aged 14 and under suffer injuries at home. In fact 85 percent of all injuries to children occur in the home and all these are preventable. The injuries tend to fall into six main categories: falls, burns, drowning, being hit by cars in the driveway, choking and poisoning. This event seeks to educate the public on how to prevent such incidents.”

Gary Sykes, President ConcoPhillips Qatar, expressed his company’s happiness at continuing to support the Kulluna Health and Safety campaign organised by the Hamad International Trading Center, stressing that such a drive brings to focus his company’s core commitment to the cause of promoting health and safety in the communities that host its activities protect our children.
