DOHA: Thirty paintings by Qatari artist Nawal Al Mannai are on display at an exhibition titled ‘Nature’ in Building No. 18 at Katara.
Al Mannai uses colours drawn from nature to create paintings that depict Qatari heritage and landscape and combine tradition and modernity.
Launching the expo, Katara General Manager Dr Khalid Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said it is part of Katara’s goal to be a forum for culture and art and support and promote local artists in their creative journey as they contribute to enriching the country’s cultural and artistic landscape.
On natural colours in her paintings, Al Manni said, “There’s nothing like God’s creation. When we go back to nature we become more beautiful.”
Coffee, tea, turmeric and beets are among the natural elements from which she has derived colours she has used in her works.
“Creativity is not acquired by simulation or recurrence and we need to find ideas to reach the natural surroundings, as nothing emulates pure instinct which makes us better,” she said.
The prolific artist has participated in 29 exhibitions and local and international competitions where she won awards.
She has also been invited as jury member in art contests here and abroad.
The exhibition is open to the public until January 15.
