Copenhagen: Mohamed Al Maimouni, spokesperson for the Danish Islamic Council, has hailed the initiative of the Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to establish Hamad bin Khalifa Centre for Civilisation which will be opened in May.
It will be the first Islamic cultural centre and mosque in Denmark and managed by the council. Al Maimouni, in remarks to Qatar News Agency, praised Qatar’s role in charitable work, which is not limited to building Islamic centres, mosques or cultural institutions such as museums, but goes beyond that to help people in Africa, Asia, Europe and the rest of the world.
“We are proud of this initiative which we have been dreaming of for 40 years,” Al Maimouni said, adding it’s a dream come true, thanks to the Father Emir, who donated to build the centre without any conditions or restrictions. It is a source of admiration to all Muslims in Denmark, he added.
To a question about Qatar’s message behind the establishment of the centre, Al Maimouni said the message is to help Muslims to positively integrate in the Danish society and promote respect for laws. Asked why Qatar chose Denmark to set up the centre, he said Danish Muslims went to Qatar asking for support it, adding that Muslims have been living in Denmark for 40 years. QNA
