DOHA: A four-day training workshop on preparatory works of 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice kicked off on Sunday at Civil Defence officers’ club. The training workshop was inaugurated by the Adviser of the Minister of Interior Maj Gen Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal, who is also the chairman of the UN Congress preparatory committee.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr Ahmad Hassan Al Hamadi, vice chairman of the committee, and Brig Badr Ibrahim Al Ghanim, the director of the Technical Office of the Minister of Interior. The participants include members of organising committee, officers from MoI and representatives from Foreign Ministry, Public Prosecution and General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
Maj Gen Dr Abdullah Yusuf Al Mal said that Qatar had set all preparations for the successful conduct of the congress in accordance with the decisions of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice and Foreign Ministry along with Qatar Foundation and Public Prosecution.
He stressed Qatar had presented two initiatives concerned with the conference, one of which is the youth forum to be held from April 7 to 9. A high level meet will also be held from April 12 to 14 which will be attended by the heads of many countries and delegates of Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Justice and Public Prosecutions from different states.
An official from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime discussed the activities of the UNODC and UN policymaking in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.
The next presentation pointed out that the Vienna acts which works to put forward policies and standards to combat crime and criminal justice has submitted its recommendations at the opening of the UN session in accordance with the different levels to approve all matters relating to the fight against corruption and human trafficking, illegal immigration and illegal drug trafficking.
Another session dealt with introduction on the conference and preparations with reference to the regional preparatory meetings, and provisional agenda and topics under discussion and the structure of the preliminary procedures and consultations for the conference, a high-level side for the first and second committees and other workshops and sub-meetings.
The final day session will discuss the UN conventions on international crime and logistics and issues related to the preparation of the 13th UN Congress.
