Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) issued a set of safety guidelines for motorists as foggy conditions continue to affect visibility across several parts of the country.

In an advisory shared on its official platforms, the Department urged drivers to exercise extreme caution while traveling during fog, which can significantly reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents, particularly during early morning hours.

The department advised motorists not to use emergency lights or high beams while driving in fog. Instead, drivers are encouraged to use fog lights and low beams.

Motorists were also urged to remain in their lanes and avoid overtaking or frequent lane changes, which can be dangerous in low-visibility conditions.

Staying alert and listening for potential hazards ahead was highlighted as another key precaution.

To ensure clear visibility inside the vehicle, QMD recommended using defrosters and windscreen wipers as needed.

Drivers were further advised to reduce speed and drive according to road conditions, allowing sufficient distance between vehicles.

The Qatar Meteorology Department reiterated the importance of following official weather updates and traffic advisories, calling on motorists to prioritise safety during adverse weather conditions.

QMD alerted people in Qatar on Tuesday to reduced horizontal visibility along coastal and offshore areas, particularly during the early hours.

It said foggy conditions have been observed across most parts of the country, reducing visibility to less than 1km.
