Doha: The Cabinet yesterday welcomed the outcome of the 25th Arab League Summit in Kuwait last month and affirmed that the Kuwait Declaration and its stances constituted further support for Arab causes in such a stage of destiny.
The weekly meeting chaired by the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani at the Emiri Diwan also praised the Kuwaiti Emir H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah for his efforts to ensure the success of the summit.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said the Cabinet took measures to issue a draft law on the promulgation of a law on GCC brands after it examined recommendations of the council.
The draft law includes provisions related to procedures for registration of trademarks, duration of brand protection, cancellation of registration, transfer of ownership and mortgage and seizure.
The Cabinet took decisions after reviewing a letter from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs on draft laws ratified by the GCC Supreme Council in its 23rd session to work on a pilot basis for two years. The draft laws are related to sources of surface water; processed wastewater and its reuse; and sources of desalinated water.
The Cabinet also discussed a letter from the Minister of Energy and Industry and head of the permanent committee of water resources on the fourth quarterly report for 2013 on the committee’s work.
The report said the panel discussed issues and took measures, including strategic projects for water security (rehabilitation of wells for potable water and injecting aquifers with desalinated water), setting a water resources policy and updating the national strategy on water resources, establishing a database on water resources, increasing Kahramaa’s storage capacity for desalinated water, and installing smart meters on groundwater wells.
The Cabinet discussed a draft memorandum of understanding between Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar Museums Authority.
It ratified a draft cooperation agreement on the conservation of biodiversity and wildlife and habitats between the Ministry of Environment and Morocco’s High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification.
It also endorsed a draft agreement between Qatar and the Swiss Federal Council on the exemption of citizens of both countries who possess diplomatic and service passports from the requirement of obtaining visa upon entry, stay and departure. The Cabinet also ratified a draft cooperation agreement on the establishment of a Junior Professional Officer programme between Qatar and Unesco.QNA
