ISLAMABAD: For the administration of Islamabad the security of seven sensitive buildings seems to be low on priority as only 2,019 personnel have been deployed there against the required strength of 3,627, it was learnt.
However, the security wing of the police department, which looks after these buildings, has on its pool 3,806 personnel from inspector to constable level.
There is no record where the rest of the policemen, which come to 1,608, have been deployed.
“Except for Presidency and Supreme Court, which have been provided extra security personnel, all the installations including Prime Minster House, Prime Minister Secretariat, Pak Secretariat and Diplomatic Enclave, do not have the required strength of the security,” they added.
“Furthermore, there was no sanctioned strength for the Islamabad High Court but it had been given 82 personnel,” a security wing official said on the condition of anonymity.
He said, “such imbalance in deployment of the personnel might jeopardise the security of major installations.”
“This slackness resulted in the suicide-gun attack on the district and sessions court on March 3,” the officials added.
The supervisory officers of the security wing withdrew personnel from the courts in different phases and on the day of attack there were only 16 personnel along with 50 officials of operation wing.
The sanctioned strength for Pak Secretariat is 919, but there are only 256 officials performing duties there, they added.
Similarly, the PM House and PM Secretariat have a sanctioned strength of 609 officials and 349 officials respectively.
