Qatar to attend democracy meet in Egypt

DOHA: Qatar will participate in an international seminar on the development of democracy in the Arab world scheduled to be held on May 9, in Cairo. 

It was disclosed by the Chairman of Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri in a press conference held here yesterday.

The event titled “Development and Democracy and Developing the System of Arab Region”, will be held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on May 9 and 10. 

The seminar will be organised by the Arabic Network for Human Rights Institutions (ANHRI) led by Qatar’s NHRC in collaboration with Arab League, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) and Arab Organisation for Human Rights.  

Several Arab issues including, the implementation of good governance in the Arab region, task of transferring into democracy and its connection with good governance, methods of development, and how to achieve social justice will be discussed in the seminar, Al Marrri added.

 Nationalism and development are basic factors for social justice, empowerment of women in Arab region and upgrading them in the Arab League will also be in the list of discussion.
