ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the National Assembly (NA) session commencing here on Monday after staying away from its two consecutive sessions of the house.
Sharif, who is also leader of the house in the NA and Senate, would be returning from the United Kingdom on Monday morning but will proceed to Karachi on the following day.
He will be inaugurating one of the two 660 megawatt coal based power projects at Port Qasim which is joint venture of Chinese and Qatari company.
It will start production within three years. The prime minister will turn up in the NA in the second week of the session.
Parliamentary sources indicated that the divided opposition would try to put the government on the mat in the upcoming session on the question of load shedding and some other issues.
Two major parties of the opposition, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Bilawal Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are not on same page opposing the government on every step.
The PTI would be levelling ground for its mass movement against rigging in May last year’s polls. May 11, the first anniversary of the general elections, has been termed as D-Day by the PTI and its allies but the PPP isn’t prepared to go that far.
Despite the visible division in the opposition, the session of the NA will be storming one as the two major groups would try their level best to prove to the galleries that they are the true opposition, the sources said.
The NA will be meeting for the last time in the first Parliamentary calendar year and hence it would be the last session of the year.
