Emir Cup: Al Rayyan edge Al Ahli to reach quarters

Doha: Marko Devic scored the winning goal as Al Rayyan continued their march at the Emir Cup after edging Al Ahli 5-3 on penalties following a goalless stalemate in the pre-quarter-finals, here at the Qatar SC Stadium yesterday. 
Al Shahaniya, Umm Salal and Al Khor also reached the quarter-finals of the coveted tournament after winning their respective matches. Ahead of the game, Al Rayyan, buoyed by their return to the Qatar Stars League, claimed one-sided wins at the Emir Cup but Al Ahli allowed no easy sailing to the football giants. 
Both the sides, with exchange of attacks throughout the match were poised 0-0 till the real time before tie-breaker came into effect. It was 4-3 in penalties before Al Ahli’s striker missed the target and Devic took full advantage to take his team into the pre-quarterfinals.  Meanwhile, Al Shahaniya also defeated Al Gharafa in a cliff-hanger, winning the match 5-4 on penalties after the full time saw both teams were locked at 2-2.
Elsewhere, Al Khor fought back from a deficit to thrash Al Arabi 4-1 with all their goals coming in the finals session, after they conceded goal in the first half. 
In other last 16 game, Umm Salal cruised past Al Sailiya 3-0 to book their place in the quarter-finals. The Peninsula
