Kabul: Twenty Taliban insurgents were killed and nine arrested in operations carried out by Afghan forces and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the past 24 hours. In a statement yesterday, the Afghan Interior Ministry said that joint forces conducted operations in Helmand, Herat, Paktiya, Paktika, Khost, Ghazni, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Zabul, Balkh and Laghman provinces. The forces also confiscated large quantities of heavy and light weapons and homemade explosives. The ministry did not mention any casualties among the forces.
N-programme safe: Official
Islamabad: Pakistan has confirmed that its nuclear programme is safe and works under an effective regulatory system. This came as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Masood Khan addressed an international conference on nuclear safety in New York last night. Radio Pakistan quoted Khan as saying that Pakistan gives utmost importance to the safety and security of its nuclear programme. He stressed that nuclear materials, facilities and installations in Pakistan are safe, pointing out that nuclear security is a national responsibility.
