Changes in Commercial Register law likely

Doha: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday chaired the Cabinet’s weekly meeting at the Emiri Diwan.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said the session reviewed programmes, plans and mechanisms developed by ministries to implement directives and guidelines included in the speech of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the opening of the Advisory Council’s 42nd session.
It decided that concerned authorities would take measures to follow up on implementation of these programmes, plans and mechanisms.
The Cabinet took measures to issue a draft law amending some provisions of Law No. 25 of 2005 on Commercial Register after it looked at recommendations of the Advisory Council.
As per amendments, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce’s competent department will review applications for commercial licences and inform applicants of the decision of the administration on the same day they made the request that meets all documents and data required.
The session approved a Cabinet draft decision on Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
The panel is headed by the Minister of Education and Higher Education, with a Supreme Council of Education representative as vice-president, and a secretary-general along with a representative from the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Environment, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar University, and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
It also approved a draft annual plan for Qatar Tourism Authority to participate in exhibitions outside Qatar, and the Scout and Guide Association of Qatar joining the Arab Union of Scouts and Guides. The Cabinet reviewed a letter by the Minister of Development Planning and Statistics, also Chairman of Permanent Population Committee, on results of a study on the ministry’s visions about the panel’s annual report 2013.
It also reviewed a letter by the Minister of Transport on a research paper on factors influencing the increase in the use of public transport and metro network, submitted by the ministry at International Association of Public Transport’s conference in Dubai in April.
A letter by the Ministry of Environment on the outcome of the 19th meeting of the GCC Standardization Organization’s board of directors in Kuwait in May and a letter by the National Committee on Arms Embargo on its 28th report for January 1 to April 30 were also reviewed.
The Cabinet took measures to ratify cooperation agreements on education, higher education and scientific research with Hungary and in the legal field with Cyprus.
