DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning clarified yesterday that the Syrian and Jordanian sheep being sold out to nationals at subsidised rates at Widam (Qatar Meat and Livestock Company) outlets were fit for human consumption.
Veterinarians of the ministry inspect all sheep that are slaughtered at abattoirs.
There was concern in the Qatari community yesterday as a video doing rounds on social media showed how a vaccine for parainfluenza 3 had caused black spots on the meat of a slaughtered Syrian sheep bought by a national at subsidised rate.
It was reported that at least 50 Syrian sheep were found to be vaccinated once or twice.
The ministry said in a statement that the sheep vaccinated within three weeks were destroyed after being slaughtered but those given vaccines before that were fit for consumption.
