DOHA: Breathtakingly beautiful photographs of people and places adorn the walls of Katara Gallery in Building 18 at an exhibition of Qatari photographer Faisal Kandrani which opened yesterday.
Forty-five photos on display are products of Faisal’s tour to many places in India two years ago.
In June 2011, he together with his brother and a friend travelled from New Delhi to Jodhpur in Rajasthan to Ladakh, Kargil and Srinagar, taking photos along the way.
“India is a massive country with very diverse culture. From people’s clothing to their way of life to the way they look, diversity is apparent from one state to another,” he told The Peninsula.
It is for this reason that he did not focus on a particular subject, but rather concentrated on whatever aroused his interest and curiosity as he journeyed from one location to another, he said.
The photos appeal to every viewer with their abundant colours and unique texture, teeming with spectacular views of scenic landscapes and portraits of people in their costumes reflecting a definite culture.
This was not the first time Faisal has featured in an exhibition exploring India and he said he has plans for a third leg of his trip to India, this time covering more places.
Faisal has been a professional photographer and a member of Qatar Photographic Society for 12 years.
“Photography is my work and hobby and as a member of QPS, I also teach those who have penchant for the art of photography,” he said.
Entitled Between the Earth and Clouds, the expo was opened by the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, H E Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari, and Indian Ambassador Sanjiv Arora. The Peninsula
