The Qatarisation of state institutions has been wisely suggested by our government to benefit this country and its citizens. It is no secret, however, that this policy is being applied by government institutions only in word, not in deed.
True, priority is given to Qatari nationals in job announcements, but this quickly turns to dust, giving citizens the impression that they are living in a heavily populated country where jobs are getting scarce. Citizens make dozens of photocopies of their academic certificates and distribute them to different companies. While doing this, they feel overjoyed that jobs are available for Qataris.
But then the bitter reality shocks Qatari citizens. This problem is clearly visible to everyone. What is the percentage of Qataris to non-Qataris in state institutions? The percentage is very small and cannot be compared with the huge percentage of foreign workers who are present even in top posts, which leaves Qataris with no jobs.
The Qatar Career Fair offers the strongest evidence that Qatarisation is only nominal. The fair is considered a civilised event. You can see many Qataris proclaiming through different media outlets that they want a job, but most of this falls on deaf ears.
Is it true that the number of Qatari jobseekers is higher than the number of jobs available in this country? Why do Qatari jobseekers face competition from their compatriots as well as people from other countries living here? Why are hindrances put in the way of Qataris in search of a suitable job? Most institutions tell university graduates that they need to have professional experience before they can hire them.
Why are Qataris considered unfit for work? Why do Qatari government officials underestimate their fellow citizens?
Nobody knows the reasons for not implementing this policy, but it has turned the whole thing into a sham. Foreign workers are here for a limited period of time. The problem is that few understand this. The other thing is that our country is badly in need of dedication from its own citizens. Most of the time, when foreign workers go back to their home countries, they never remember Qatar, which gave them many good things.
This means that Qatar will be left only with its grateful sons who are ready to serve it in all fields. These citizens never hesitate to serve their country. I was astonished when I heard recently that Saudis were also welcome to get jobs in Qatar. Saudis are given priority in jobs over citizens from other countries.
Has Qatarisation already been implemented for us to implement a Saudiisation policy here? It makes my mind boggle.
To Qatari government officials, I say, please, do not fight your compatriots, but help them. You need to prepare and train them. They can give you loyalty in return.
