Doha: Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) and Delfina Foundation have partnered to launch a search for emerging Arab writers in the Middle East.
BQFP is a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).
Supporting QF’s commitment to education, innovation and community development, the eight-week residency will provide the winning applicant with the prospect of developing a body of work in London, QF said yesterday.
BQFP Arabic Publishing Head, Fakhri Saleh, said, “The Middle East is full of talented writers with unique stories to tell. We are seeking to identify, support and promote them.”
Delfina Foundation Director, Aaron Cezar, said, “Delfina Foundation creates career-defining opportunities for cultural practitioners. We are excited by the new partnership with BQFP, which will offer a young writer the chance to spend time in London researching, writing and engaging with creative thinkers.”
The residency will provide writers with a platform to incubate ideas and showcase them to international peers and the public. The selected resident will live with cultural practitioners from the Middle East and Asia during Summer 2015, QF said.
BQFP English Publishing Head, Thalia Suzuma, said, “We are delighted to be teaming up with Delfina Foundation to help emerging writers have the time and space to devote themselves to creative writing.”
The deadline for applications is November 13. Eligible applicants must be of Arab nationality and living in the Middle East. Poetry, fiction, and non-fiction writings will be accepted in English or Arabic. Shortlisted applicants will be notified and interviewed in December, QF said. QNA
