DOHA: The Qatar Alliance for the Relief of the Peoples of Somalia and the Philippines has distributed non-food items to 1,548 families affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the towns of La Paz and Dagami in Leyte Province in the Philippines.
The alliance comprises Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF), Sheikh Eid bin Mohammad Al Thani Charitable Association, and Al Asmakh Charity Foundation.
The aid contained 3,150 blankets, 592 tarpaulins, 594 tents, 3,390 water tanks and 4,488 mattresses.
These were distributed in cooperation with Philippine Red Cross and in coordination with local authorities. Leyte was the worst-hit by Haiyan. La Paz and Dagami are an hour drive from the city of Tacloban. Beneficiaries included destitute families, widows, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The alliance was formed as a result of Qatar Day of Solidarity with the Peoples of Somalia and the Philippines, in November 2013, in response to a call by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
