DOHA: The Traffic Department is planning to set up a “traffic village-cum institute” to raise public awareness about traffic rules and safe driving.
The facility will have exclusive halls equipped with audio-visual aid to show traffic signs and signals and educate the public about seatbelts and other safety measures, Al Sharq reported, quoting Brig Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, director of the Traffic Department.
Land has already been allotted for the project and construction will begin soon, he said. The idea was inspired by the success of the Traffic Kindergarten set up by the Department at its headquarters in Madinat Khalifa, said Al Kharji.
The Traffic KG featuring a mini traffic junction and entertainment events for families was intended to raise traffic awareness among the visitors. Al Kharji said the Department aims to promote a traffic culture through such activities.
“Complying traffic rules should become part of people’s behaviour. Fear about penalties or presence of surveillance cameras should not be the only factors prompting them to obey the rules,” said the official.
