DOHA: The second edition of the annual ‘Run the World’ youth-led sports festival has been extended from seven to 10 days and expanded to include more events such as an RTW Outdoor Festival, a fashion show and gala dinner under the theme ‘Youth and Sports.’

Organised by The Youth Company in partnership with the Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum, which is under the umbrella of the Qatar Museums Authority, the national youth sports festival will take place from December 12 to 22.

The festival is designed to encourage the youth of Qatar to lead an active, athletic and a healthy lifestyle and will feature a Fashion Show, RTW Talk, “Heart Qatar”, “Young Corporate Cup”, RTW Comedy Show, a Medical Camp, a three-day RTW Outdoor Festival and a Gala Dinner. Last year’s event attracted thousands of visitors and volunteers.

“Being a social enterprise, we as The Youth Company aim to facilitate the growth and development of youth in different aspects, thus ensuring a long-lasting positive social impact. Following our mission, ‘Run The World’ was designed as a platform for youth empowerment, networking and development through sports,” said Diego Pinzon, Acting Executive Director of The Youth Company.

“Run The World” festival is designed completely by the youth for the youth. The organising committee comprises over 60 young people along with over 700 volunteers.

“The partnership between Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum and The Youth Company to re-create ‘Run The World’ festival for the second time reinforces Qatar’s commitment to encourage and enable cultural, and in extension sports initiatives,” said Dr Christian Wacker, Director of the Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum.

The festival will commence on December 12 with a Fashion Show, dedicated to sports and leisure wear. ‘InspiringQatar’ is an opportunity for local designers to showcase their talent while adhering to the overall theme of the festival.

The majority of events during the “Run The World” festival are open for the general public and, mainly, target youth aged 14-29.

However, various activities were designed to make sure that people of different ages and interests could find a way to get involved. The “Young Corporate Cup”, for instance, taking place from December 14 to 15, aims to attract 16 football teams, representing different companies and organisations. Another event, “Heart Qatar” will gather children with special needs to play with sports celebrities on December 19.

The main attraction for the public is a three-day RTW Outdoor Festival from December 20 to 22, which will include sports tournaments, workshops and cultural program supported by several embassies and cultural groups in Qatar.

The Outdoor festival will also host the finals of “Youth Got Talent” Singing and Dancing Contest and an exhibition of the best submissions for the RTW Photography Competition on the topic of “Youth & Sports”.

All events of “Run The World” festival are free to participate in. Some events such as the Fashion Show, Comedy Show, and RTW Talk, however, require pre-registration due to limited number of seats. All registration forms and a detailed schedule can be found at the official event web-page www.rtwfestival.com
