Doha: FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar released the design of their fourth stadium on the fourth anniversary of their 2022 bid success here yesterday.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) unveiled the design for Qatar Foundation Stadium and Health & Wellness Precinct, a proposed venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at a function at Education City, the home of QF.
This is the fourth design reveal that Qatar has done so far.
Last week, the Qatar 2022 organisers unveiled stadium design plans for Khalifa International Stadium at a ceremony in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf Cup.
Earlier they had released stadiums plans in Al Wakrah and Al Khor.
The Qatar Foundation Stadium is being designed to seat 40,000, with the capacity reduced to 25,000 after the tournament, the SC said here yesterday.
The stadium will feature innovative cooling technology, like all proposed 2022 FIFA World Cup venues, which will provide comfortable playing and viewing conditions for fans and players alike, the 2022 World Cup organisers said.
The design of the state-of-the-art stadium will see light filtered through complex geometrical patterns, an innovative and unique element of the stadium design and will be located in Education City.
“I am pleased that on the fourth anniversary of Qatar winning the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy is able to stand alongside one of the most prominent Qatari institutions to reveal the design of the Qatar Foundation Stadium,” Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the SC said.
“This is another key milestone in our preparations for hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and is the fourth stadium design we have unveiled following in the past thirteen months. The QF Stadium and Health & Wellness Precinct will not only allow us to host an amazing World Cup but also leave a genuine legacy in Qatar well beyond 2022,” Al Thawadi added.
Engineer Saad Al Muhannadi, President of Qatar Foundation, said sports and healthy lifestyle is part of the National Vision 2030.
“Founded on the three strategic pillars of education, science and community development, Qatar Foundation’s mission to unlock human potential supports the country’s work to deliver the Qatar National Vision 2030. The Qatar Foundation Stadium and Health & Wellness Precinct will deliver a rich and sustainable sports and health legacy for the QF community and people of Qatar, and help the nation achieve future successes long after the tournament,” Al Muhannadi said during the launch ceremony.
“In addition to supporting Qatar’s unique heritage and culture, we are proud that the environmentally sustainable concept and design of the stadium offers the inspiration for people around the world to adopt greener lifestyles,” he added.
