DOHA: A criminal court has sentenced a Filipino to three years in jail for killing a fellow national accidentally and ordered his deportation after he has served his term.
The convict and the victim were friends and colleagues and stayed together in their company’s accommodation.
On the night of the incident, they drank together and the convict kicked the deceased in the belly. The victim fell down and suffered internal head injuries, leading to bleeding.
After the incident, other colleagues who lived with them in the accommodation took the victim away from the convict and made him sleep in their room.
In the morning they took him to hospital and it was discovered that he had suffered internal head injuries and bled. The victim died in hospital.
The convict told investigators that while drinking there was a fight between him and the victim and that he had kicked him in the stomach and the deceased had fallen down. It was only after that the others who lived with them entered the room and took the deceased away, said the convict.
The defence lawyer pleaded that his client be acquitted arguing that what he did was accidental and that he was in a drunken state, the local Arabic daily Al Raya reported yesterday.
