QRC holds paramedic training at schools

DOHA: With QR1,000,000 funding from Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme, the Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) branch in Al Khor city has continued the training programme, ‘I Am a Paramedic’ to cover 19 Supreme Education Council (SEC) schools in Al Shamal during the academic year 2014-2015. 
Participants gained experience and knowledge, including background information about QRC and training in first aid, surface water rescue, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, how to deal with suffocation, bleeding, injuries, fractures, burns, epilepsy, poisoning and heat exhaustion, and techniques of moving injured people.
Courses were held by trainers, including internationally certified physicians, nurse school faculty, emergency medical technicians-advanced life support and anaesthesia/recovery technicians.
Since its launch in September, the programme has organised first aid lectures and courses for 405 people at schools in Al Shamal. 
Rashid bin Saad Al Mohannadi, Head, Al Khor branch, and Director, QRC Social Development Department, said, “The programme is not limited to students. 
“It also covers teachers, administrative staff, bus supervisors and parents to build a well-trained base of society members who can deal effectively with injuries and emergencies,” he added.
