Thiruvananthapuram: A court here yesterday sent to the gallows an autorickshaw driver who raped a Class 10 student and murdered her in March 2012.
Principal Sessions Judge B Sudheendrakumar awarded the death penalty to Rajesh Kumar who raped the 15-year-old victim March 6, 2012 when she was alone in her house. He was arrested a week after the incident.
After the verdict, the victim’s mother told reporters: “Capital punishment is what the murderer deserved and we prayed for it also. He did not deserve anything less.”
Meanwhile, Kerala Police has written to Facebook following a complaint from the parents of a young woman whose photograph was posted on the social networking site and identified as the Delhi gang rape victim. N Vinayakumaran Nair, assistant commissioner of police, who heads the Hi-Tech Crime Enquiry Cell, said a probe had begun following a complaint from the parents of the woman whose picture was misused.
“We have written to the site which posted the picture. It should have been removed by now,” Nair said.
He said soon after the picture was posted, there were numerous comments saying it was fake.
“We are certain we will soon find out how this happened,” he said. Nair did not disclose the complainant’s name. IANS
