DOHA: Hamad General Hospital (HGH) has launched the Hamad Injury Prevention Programme (HIPP) as a research initiative to improve public health and safety.
HIPP is an integral part of the trauma service and a result of the research carried out by the trauma leadership at HGH, looking at the most common and high-risk incidents. They translated the data to prioritise cases for interventions, said a statement yesterday.
The trauma service was established by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to develop a comprehensive, integrated, data-driven trauma care system.
The service has created a more organised framework for the delivery of care in a more streamlined process and improve patient outcome.
It is made up of three components: Clinical service, education and Trauma Registry.
For Trauma Registry to succeed, it is necessary to have appropriate resource allocation, quality input and research.
HIPP, led by Dr Rafael Consunji, Injury Prevention Consultant, and the Trauma Research Unit led by Dr Ayman El Menyar, Trauma Research Consultant, support the success of the registry, reduce the burden of trauma and improve patient outcome.
Dr Ahmad Masoud Zarour, Consultant in the Surgery Department at HMC, said, “HIPP provides a valuable service to our patients and contributes to saving lives through effective treatment and management.”
Dr Hassan Ali Saoud Al Thani, Senior Consultant in the Surgery Department, said: “We are proud of our team for implementing this successful HIPP to add to HMC’s accomplishments. HIPP will hopefully reduce injuries and improve patient outcome.”
HIPP recently won in the Research Category of the HMC Stars of Excellence Reward and Recognition programme.
The Star of Excellence Award was given to HIPP for translating research into public safety because it contributed to the improvement of the overall health service delivery, enhanced patient experience and met HMC’s goal to provide the safest, most effective and most compassionate healthcare.
