DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is in the process of establishing specialised antenatal clinics for at-risk pregnancies to meet the increasing number of cases, an HMC expert has said.
High-risk pregnancy issues, complications and global maternal fatalities were key topics discussed by obstetricians and gynaecologists during a recent three-day symposium in Doha.
Dr Najat Khenyab, Senior Consultant at Women’s Hospital, told participants that the number of patients visiting the hospital with at-risk pregnancies is increasing due to the high prevalence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, blood pressure and hereditary diseases.
“Women’s Hospital is continuously working towards providing best care and is in the process of establishing specialised antenatal clinics for at-risk pregnancies. We have begun work with our diabetes clinic which includes an endocrinologist, a gynaecologist and a nurse.”
The symposium also addressed pregnancies associated with blood diseases, hepatitis and blood clot disorders.
