DOHA: The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) has invited nominations for the 2015 WISE Prize for Education.
The prize, in fifth year, is the first global recognition of an individual or team for an outstanding contribution to education.
It raises the status of education by giving it similar prestige in other fields for which international prizes exist such as literature, peace and economics.
The prize recognises an inspiring, visionary approach and a proven track record of achievement in education in any field or sector at any level.
Nominations can be made by individuals or institutions, including schools, international organisations and private companies, from anywhere in the world. They must be made through the WISE website www.wiseprizeforeducation.org by March 31.
Nominations will be reviewed by an international committee of experts. The final selection will be made by a jury of individuals chaired by Dr Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman, WISE.
“Our WISE Prize for Education laureates are individuals whose passion, energy and commitment have been an inspirational force for good in the world of education.
“The prize’s  international attention has focused on the importance of education in building strong, prosperous societies. I look forward to identifying the 2015 laureate,” said Dr Al Thani.
The winner of the prize which comprises a gold medal and $500,000 will be announced at the WISE Summit to be held from November 3 to 5 in Doha.
