The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar in Doha yesterday.
Doha: The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani yesterday stressed that Pakistan’s prosperity and stability is very important to Qatar.
Doha will provide full support to Islamabad to achieve it, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem said as he received Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.
He said there was a strategic convergence of views between both countries on various regional and international issues, including peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister also hailed Pakistan’s role in facilitating the reconciliation process in the war-torn country.
Khar, who was in Doha for consultations with Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem, said that only an all-inclusive, intra-Afghan dialogue would ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan on a sustainable basis.
She said Pakistan backs an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process.
Both leaders reviewed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the situation in Afghanistan.
During her visit to Qatar last year, Khar had praised Qatar’s role in helping to start peace talks with the Taliban.
The Taliban movement has reportedly agreed to set up its bureau in Doha.
Qatar, while welcoming the initiative, had earlier said it hoped the bureau would help facilitate efforts to ensure security and peace between Taliban and other parties in Afghanistan.
The Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, during separate talks with Khar, praised the role of the Pakistani community in Qatar.
The Emir stressed that Qatar would seriously look into the possibility of hiring more Pakistani workers.
The Emir said that Qatar would continue to support Pakistan’s keenness to have a free trade agreement with GCC countries.
Khar also held talks with the Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada and discussed projects to enhance cooperation in the energy sector.
