DOHA: As part of its support for the Egyptian economy and youth, Silatech sponsored The Egyptian Competitiveness Report 2013 and the ninth annual conference of Egyptian National Competitiveness Council in Cairo recently.
The report ‘Towards Sustainable Competitiveness: Restructuring Institutions in Egypt,’ is an annual publication produced by the council.
It focuses on topics such as optimising labour markets, public spending levels, social dialogue and democratic transition and revitalising the tourism sector and restructuring institutions.
Over 500 representatives from the private sector, civil society, academia, government and media attended the conference.
They included Amr Moussa, Ambassador and former secretary-general of the Arab League, Dr Ashraf El Araby, former minister of planning and international cooperation, Osama Saleh, former minister of investment, and Dr Ahmed Darwish, former minister of state for administrative development.
Dr Nader Kabbani, Director of Research and Policy at Silatech, participated in the closing session, which highlighted the importance of reforming labour market institutions as a prerequisite for effective social dialogue.
Silatech is a regional social initiative working to improve employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people in the Arab world.
