Vienna: Qatar has welcomed the increasing role of nuclear science and technology for peaceful applications, particularly in the areas of food and agriculture, human and animal health, environment and water. It considers it a matter of hope, especially as the United Nations prepares this year post-2015 sustainable development plan.
This came in a statement delivered by Qatari Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Atomic Energy Agency and international organisations, Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, under item (review of nuclear technologies for 2015) within IAEA Board of Governors spring session 2015.
Al Mansouri called for maximum use of nuclear applications in sustainable development and said all nations need it for development. He also called for deployment of technologies and applications, especially in developing countries that need more support and greater international cooperation, and said these technologies and applications should be an integral part of the post-2015 sustainable development programme.
He stressed the need for cooperation between IAEA and concerned UN agencies to achieve the widest possible use of these technologies and develop them for the benefit of humankind.QNA
