Doha: Ooredoo and Paris Saint-Germain have kicked off their global community football coaching programme at an event held in Qatar last week.
“Kicking off our community coaching programme in partnership with Paris Saint-Germain will help develop the football stars of tomorrow, in Qatar and across our footprint,” said Dr Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo. “With half of our customers under 25, this programme will empower and unite youth through the shared love of football. Paris Saint-Germain is a world-renowned brand similarly dedicated to developing communities, and will provide sporting excellence to youth across our markets,” he said.
Ooredoo, and the powerhouse French football club that it sponsors, are joining forces to support the Paris Saint-Germain Academy by Ooredoo, which is run by Evolution Sports Academy. This is an innovative community coaching programme that creates life opportunities for youth across Ooredoo’s footprint in the Middle East, North Africa, and South East Asia.
As part of Ooredoo’s Summer of Sport, which supports a wide range of exciting global sporting events, the community coaching programme recently launched at Doha College.
During the event in Qatar, Paris Saint-Germain’s top coaches Sacha Lizambard and Benjamin Houri taught football-related skills to more than 200 children. Coaches also led educational sessions on topics such as injury management, and match preparation.
In the coming months Ooredoo will roll out the Paris Saint-Germain Academy programme across its footprint, bringing this combination of football training and related skills to under served communities and supporting youth in these communities.
