Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) and Ooredoo yesterday signed a sponsorship agreement for the second edition of the ‘Competitors’ campaign which aims to engage Qatari society in humanitarian work, investing the energies of young people and mobilising support for charitable projects.
The agreement was signed by QC CEO Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari and H E Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Thani, Head of New Business at Ooredoo, in the presence of Saad Hodaifi, Deputy Director of Jazeera Children’s Channels, Hassan bin Rabia Al Kuwari, Director of Corporate Communications for Qatar Stars League, participants in the ‘Competitors 2’ campaign and a number of QC officials and ambassadors in a special ceremony.
“The second edition of the ‘Competitors’ campaign which was released a few days ago, came after the success of the first version of the campaign in a bid to engage Qatari society, promote and mobilise support for humanitarian action, raising awareness of the importance of serving the community and external communities as required,” said Al Kuwari.
“The second edition of the ‘Competitors’ has developed both in terms of performance and assessment based on the experience of the first version,” he said.
He pointed out that the most important characteristic of the second version of the campaign is to increase the number of participants, which has reached 30 contestants — including doctors, engineers, preachers and media and sports professionals — compared to 15 participants last year.
A QR200,000 donation from the Qatar Stars League was presented to QC during the ceremony to be used for the benefit of Syrian refugees.
A recent field visit allowed QC staff to witness first-hand the situation of Syrian refugees in Jordan, and to provide aid to them, in a number of locations, including the Zaatari camp, which houses a number of wounded people and orphans.
Al Kuwari praised the ‘Competitors’ team which mobilizes support for projects for the relief of the Syrian people, at home or as refugees in neighbouring countries, with donations reaching almost a million and a half million riyals in just a few days.
He explained that a special team will oversee the implementation of field projects that will be funded by them in the coming period.
“We offer our thanks to Qatar Charity for this quality initiative quality which seeks to integrate the Qatari community in volunteer work and direct their energies to serve poor and stricken communities with the establishment of humanitarian projects that make a real difference in their lives,” said Al Thani.
